Abandoned City, Forgotten Past

Abandoned city, forgotten past  is becoming an oil painting, ( 50 X 70 cm). I have laid the foundation with light broken colors, now I´ve applied denser colors and feeling my way toward beauty.

It is educating to look at how the images evolve. The goal is to create a feeling difficult to describe with words, the forgotten past, the dwindling memories of a life.

Starting with the aquarel.

Made sketches of the man and the goat.

I thought about making texture. Details, but not too much. This image will be like a dream memory.

I´m going to make the background more misty, trying to get interesting colors in the making. I think I want the foreground clear, maybe with a ray of the sun falling in.

I decided to try to make more lines in the painting. Like a drawing with colors. The meaning of this image is forgetting the past, so I´ll see if kind of dissolving the city behind him, will work.

Drawing lines around figures, greying the sky. Terracotta color on the city behind.

I will try to rein in the colors, keep them in orange and green/grey.

Darkened the grass, painted more buildings behind. Made everything a bit straighter. Will this be a good painting ever? Well, I am learning by doing. Wish me well.

Darkened the background, will make the foreground sharper in contrast. The idea is to visualize the man in the moment, leaving the memory of the past. Need glazes and thin colors on the city walls.

Need to work on the walls to the left, and the grass, the air. It shall not be a dark and scary picture, but more, maybe melancholy? I want a feeling of evening sunshine around the figures.
